Filament testing ensures that every batch meets performance, durability, and consistency standards required for paintbrush and industrial applications. These tests help identify mechanical strength, dimensional stability, moisture behavior, and long-term reliability.

Moisture Test

Moisture Test

This test measures the moisture content in the resin before processing. Excess moisture can cause defects such as bubbles, cracks, weak bonding, and poor filament strength during extrusion. Maintaining proper moisture levels ensures a smooth surface, stronger structure, and consistent final quality.

Tensile Test

Tensile Strength & Elongation Test

In this test, the filament is stretched until it breaks to determine how much force it can withstand and how far it can stretch. The results reveal tensile strength, elongation percentage, and overall durability—critical factors in predicting real-life performance under stress and repeated use.

Bend Recovery Test

Bend Recovery Test

This test evaluates how well a filament returns to its original shape after being bent. Poor bend recovery leads to permanent deformation and reduced brush performance over time. Two methods are commonly used:

  • Dupont Method: Standardized process for measuring elastic recovery.
  • China Method: Alternative testing approach used widely in the industry.

This test measures whether the filament maintains a perfectly round cross-section or becomes oval. Maintaining circular uniformity ensures even performance, smooth brush action, consistent stiffness, and proper fit during manufacturing.

Shrinkage Test

Shrinkage Test

Filaments are heated and cooled to observe dimensional changes. High shrinkage can cause warping, surface defects, and size inconsistency. Well-stabilized filaments show minimal shrinkage, ensuring long-term stability during temperature variations.

Taper Ratio Test

Taper Ratio Test

This test measures how gradually the filament diameter decreases from base to tip. A proper taper ratio enhances control, smooth paint flow, flexibility, and stroke precision. The taper directly affects brush performance, finish quality, and ease of use.
